McKinley Changemakers host donation drive for homeless community and their pets

The McKinley Changemakers hosted a drive for the Tulsa homeless community. Each class put together a basket of supplies that included nutritious snacks and hygiene products for kids, toys and treats for pets, or a combination. Then, each basket was brought to the cafeteria on Tuesday for the Changemakers to judge. The top two classes will get to have a pizza party.

The five Changemakers, Cynthia, Amy, Valeria, Julissa, and Joselin, went around to each basket and scored them based on participation, collaboration, and decoration. While they had to reach a consensus for each one, of course they each had their favorites.

Joselin's favorite was a bubble bath-themed basket, created by Ms. Smith's 6th grade class.

Amy and Valeria enjoyed the basket filled with individual bags of treats for kids. Each one also included a personal note from the students in Ms. Davis's 2nd grade class, who put it together. It earned the second place spot.

Cynthia and Julissa loved the "Dogs Dream Too" basket, which the group ultimately selected as the winner. It was created by Ms. Woodard's 6th grade class.

All the supplies for the homeless community will go to the Day Center for the Homeless, and the pet donations will go to Housing Solutions. Check out photos of the other baskets below.
